Item: 16 piece set Manufacturer: Philipp Rosenthal History: Philipp Rosenthal (1855-1937) began business in Germany in 1884. Initially he purchased white ware from the company Hutschenreuther which was resold door to door after being hand-painted by his wife Maria. In 1891, he established a factory in Asch, Bohemia and began production of his own white ware. From 1897 to 1934, Rosenthal acquired further factories in Kronach, Marktredwitz, Selb, Waldenburg, Sophienthal, and Waldershof. Pattern: Unknown, Butterfly(?). Hand decorated with paint added to the pattern. Description: A wonderful butterfly, thistle pattern. This is a 16 piece assorted set consisting of: 1_10” dinner plate. Condition: 33% loss to gold rim trim, and very minor usage marks. 4_8 1/2” luncheon plates. Condition: 50% loss to gold rim trim. 2 plates have flea bite chips to bottom of rim edge, with one of these plates having “stress lines” which look like cracks but are not. One of the non-chip plates also has a “stress line” in the middle of the plate. All plates have very minor usage marks. 2 coffee cups. No saucers. 20% loss to gold rim trim. One cup has a short “stress line” as per above. 4_6 1/2” bread/desert plates. 5-10% loss to gold rim trim. Very minor usage marks. One plate has a short “stress line” as per above. 5_5 1/2” side/berry/desert bowls. These bowls have a raised pattern around the rim. Up to 40% loss to gold rim trim. Very minor usage marks. One bowl has a flea bite under the rim edge. Color: White base with blue & brown, gold accents, white details. Size: Per above Marks: The plates are unmarked. The bowls and cups are marked with the Rosenthal logo; Louis XIV Date: 1891 to 1906 Condition: Per above. The noted “stress lines” cannot be felt with a finger nail, and are probably age related.
