Object: This auction is for a lot of four 5 1/2" saucers (or cup saucers) from Rosenthal's Studio Line, designed by Bjorn Wiinblad for his "Petruschka" line of porcelain dinnerware. One of the four is mismarked. Please see photos. Artist/Studio: Rosenthal Studio Line; Designer, Bjorn Wiinblad ( 1918–2006). Philipp Rosenthal began production in porcelain in 1884 near Bavarian Selb. The industry would go through years of war, prosperity and executive changes. Rosenthal's Studio Line was introduced in 1961. This line drew famous and avant-garde designers from around the world - Bjorn Wiinblad from Denmark, Hans Theo Baumann from Germany, Raymond Peynet from France, Lisa Larsen, and others. Today, Rosenthal Studio-Line products are known worldwide for modern and sophisticated design. Source: Online research. Origin: Germany Year: 1981 to 1987, vintage, discontinued Signed: The black circle with white text on the bottom of three of these pieces reads in part, "Dekor "Petruschka" von Bjorn Wiinblad...Rosenthal studio-linie." Oddly, one of the four in this lot is mismarked "Dekor "Manipur" bon victor Vasarely." (Bottom right in photo.) Pattern: Petruschka Color: Bright white bodies; mosaic style rim design in greens, grey, aqua, tan and white. Colors are brighter and richer than photos can show. Any odd tones are from the camera. Material: Porcelain pottery Surface: Glossy; smooth; tactile center ring. Technique: Factory produced Features: Slightly flared rim with tactile center ring (for cup); small foot rim; recessed base; mfg marked. Condition: Very good, pre-owned, vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing and only very minor surface wear, if any. Any irregularities in glaze, s hape or color, any fleabites, etc. would be consistent with age, or from the manufacturing process and not damage of any kind. Most of our items are estate finds and are in good to excellent used condition. Vintage, pre-owned items will not usually be in mint condition, but may show signs of age, use, or wear from being pre-owned and loved for many years.
