Description

Eastman Kodak AERO-EKTAR F/6.0 24 in. 610mm 9x18 Lens - Serial No. AE911 - Both front and rear lenses are clear. There is only one slight scratch on edge of the front lens which did not show in the photos. The is not any haze or fungus. The are a few flecks of fine dust. The Lever-actuated, variable iris Diaphragm operates smoothly. The black steel leaves are in good condition, show normal minor signs of use/wear, and function as intended. Lens caps are made of metal with a textured black powder coated finish, and fit well. Used in WW II miilitary aerial cameras for high altitude photo reconnaissance. Kodak assigned serial numbers to Anastigmat Special/Anastar and Ektar lens which indicate that it was produced in 1942. The rear lens has a slight yellow tint which according to the information on the internet has been attributed to the use of Thorium doping of the glass to attain the appropriate refractive index for its intended use. There has also been discussion of possible mild radioactive alpha emissions as a result of its use. The 1942-1945 Kodak Reference Handbook does not mention information regarding the coating or the color tint. The photos are of the actual item listed.
