The rim of the Sans Souci mold is heavily embossed with swirls, curves and cross hatching. Just below the rim inside the bowl is a garland of petite pink roses with the green leaves and grey ghost leaves to give depth to the design. The numerous pink roses are so cute! The rim is embossed with a rope design that is trimmed in a greyish green color. This is quite striking and a real beauty that was designed by a most talented artist! CONDITION: The condition of this Rosenthal bowl is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines. The color on the rim is solid as applied. There is no wear to the other colors. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The square bowl is 11 1/8" by 11 1/8" with a height of 2 5/8" . HISTORY/MARKS: In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. In his book entitled Rosenthal Service, Figural Ornamental and Art Pieces, Dieter Struss dates this mark as used in the 1948+ time period due to “U.S. Standard-Design” implies manufactured after 1948. This bowl is on the Sans Souci mold which was introduced in 1926. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
